Professor Emeritus Abraham Malherbe dies at 82

Via Facebook, from a posting referring to a blog posting by Mark Goodacre, I have been informed that Professor Emeritus Abraham Malherbe, New Testament scholar, died at 82 by heart attack, on last Friday Sept. 28.

He was a learned scholar and and a friendly person. I had the pleasure of knowing him for the last 15 years; not close, but we had a chat when we met. I enjoy reading his works, especially his commentary on Paul’s letters to the Thessalonians.

There is an obituary from Yale here, which gives a very pertinent description of him both as a scholar and as a person. RIP
